In an official statement on their Facebook page, the board announced that they had formally requested the Icelandic National Broadcasting Service (RÚV) to refrain from participating.
"Unfortunately, some customers felt offended by these images, which have now been removed, and saw in them something far from what was intended when they were created."
McDonald's and Starbucks are among several brands suffering boycotts in some Arab countries due to actual or perceived support of Israel in its war with Hamas.
One of the organizers of the event said on stage that “antisemitic bus drivers refused to drive participants to the rally.”
"It's unbelievable that even donating food has become a political matter," the establishment said.
The cause: Allegations that certain Starbucks union stores were openly supporting Hamas, a recognized terrorist organization.
Last year, the foundation left out the ambassadors of Russia and its ally Belarus because of Moscow's invasion of Ukraine.
“The decision constitutes an infringement of the freedom of students and scholars to interact, study, and conduct research about Israel,” the statement argues.
