The territory siezed by the IDF in Syria following the collapse of the Assad regime is vital for Israeli security, IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Eyal Zamir said Sunday during a field tour and security assessment in the area.

"The space is a vital space," said Zamir, who was accompanied by Northern Command head Maj.-Gen. Ori Gordin, Division 210 head Brig.-Gen. Yair Falai, and other senior officials. "We entered here because Syria fell apart, and therefore we hold key points and are on the front lines to best protect ourselves."

During the visit, Zamir met with commanders and soldiers operating in the field and approved plans for ongoing defensive and offensive operations.

Anyone who was paying attention over the last few weeks will likely not be surprised that the Trump administration seems to be moving toward a new Iran nuclear deal, which will not fulfill Israel’s expectations.

The Jerusalem Post has received strong signals from top Israeli officials in this direction, and public statements by American officials have essentially confirmed this trend.

In quick succession, Washington and Tehran held a first round of nuclear talks on April 12, a second round this past Saturday, and have now scheduled a third round for April 26.

IDF arrests civilians that crossed into Gaza security buffer zone

A number of civilians entered the security barrier area separating Israel from the Gaza Strip, but did not cross into the Strip, the IDF announced on Sunday.

"IDF soldiers were deployed to the scene, arrested the civilians, and returned them safely," the military noted.

"The civilians were transferred to the care of the Israel Police. We emphasize that the civilians did not cross into the Gaza Strip. Approaching the barrier area is dangerous and interferes with the activities of the security forces in the area," the military concluded.

IDF fires Golani commander, censures brigade chief over killing of 14 Red Cross medics

The military also admitted that its initial reports on the incident, based on reports from soldiers on the ground, were false.

The IDF on Sunday announced that it is firing a deputy commander of Sayeret Golani, a major, and censuring Brigade 14 Commander Col. "T" for their conduct in a March 23 incident in which the military killed 14 International Red Crescent medics in Gaza nd seriously wounded another.

In addition, the IDF spokesperson acknowledged that some of the initial reports that it put out about the incident, in terms of whether the medic vehicles had their headlights on or not, and other issues, were false because some of the information it was initially given by the soldiers in the field was false.

Once the IDF Fact Finding Mechanism Unit, led by Maj. Gen. (res.) Yoav Har Even probed the issue, he found that some of the initial information provided had been false and strived to correct it in an April 5 interim report.

Two female IDF soldiers wounded in Gaza incident in which CWO Alnasasra was killed

According to Walla, CWO Alnasasra fell while helping the wounded female soldiers.

Two female combat soldiers serving in the 414th Battalion, Border Protection Corps, were seriously wounded in the incident in which CWO G'haleb Sliman Alnasasra was killed in the Gaza Strip.

An additional tracker was seriously wounded in the incident. According to Walla, CWO Alnasasra fell while helping the wounded female soldiers.

Pini Ganon, the former commander of the IDF tracker unit and head of the Bedouin unit at the Defense Ministry, discussed Bedouin enlistment in the military, saying that the IDF missed an opportunity with the sector after the October 7 attacks, during a Saturday interview on Radio 103FM.

The interview came following the death of Bedouin tracker CWO G'haleb Sliman Alnasasra in Gaza.
