Zeitouni 'hit and run' killers ask to be tried in France

The two suspects in the "hit and run" car accident that killed Lee Zeitouni, requested to be tried in France rather than Israel, Israel Radio reported Wednesday.
Claude Isaac Hayat and Eric Rubic fled to France following the incident. According to Israel Radio the maximum prison sentence they would be expected to receive in France was 7 years, in comparison to 20 years in Israel.
Attorney Joseph Cohen- Saban reportedly said that Israel and France were conducting a power struggle over Hayat and Rubic's trial. The attorney expressed his belief that Israel would have to give up the fight.
Rubic's lawyer Francoise Cotta said that the magistrate had not yet questioned the two men, according to the report.
