Interior Ministry to examine sea boundaries

Interior Ministry director-general, Amram Kalaji, has appointed a new committee to investigate the maritime jurisdictional borders of local authorities that border the Mediterranean Sea, the Red Sea and Lake Kinneret, the ministry announced on Sunday. Today, while several cities whose municipalities are located hundreds of meters or more from the sea have established jurisdiction over maritime zones, others that are much closer – like Akko, Rishon LeZion and Netanya – do not, according to the ministry.
The committee, which will accept input from all the relevant local authorities and environmentalists, will be chaired by Menachem Arslan, director of the department of Geographic Information in the ministry's Planning Administration, and will include other experts from the ministry, University of Haifa Prof. Baruch Kipnis and former Hof Carmel regional council head Aryeh Simhoni, the ministry said.
