Bloomberg, an independent, will show for Clinton in Philadelphia

WASHINGTON -- Former New York mayor Michael Bloomberg will make the case for Hillary Clinton's candidacy for president this week at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, having chosen in the spring not to mount a run of his own.

Bloomberg will endorse Clinton– who he came to know well when she served as a US senator for New York– "from the perspective of a business leader and an independent," Howard Wolfson, a senior adviser to Mr. Bloomberg, told The New York Times on Sunday.

The former mayor considered running for over a year and assembled a sizable team to study his prospects. He ultimately decided that a run would increase the risks that Donald Trump, the Republican nominee, would win the election.

Bloomberg considers Trump a demagogue whose policy proposals would "embolden our enemies, threaten the security of our allies, and put our own men and women in uniform at greater risk," he wrote in March.
