Azerbaijan unopposed in race for UN council seat

UNITED NATIONS - Azerbaijan was left unopposed on Monday in its bid for a seat on the UN Security Council in 2012-2013 after Slovenia withdrew from the race following 16 inconclusive rounds of voting.
Azerbaijan still needs to secure a two-thirds majority of votes in the 193-nation UN General Assembly to ensure that it joins Pakistan, Morocco, Guatemala and Togo as temporary members of the 15-nation council in January. Those four nations were elected to the council on Friday.
