Wild day of winners at Caesarea’s Club Championship

The tournament marked the end of Andy Santos’s 18-year tenure as the club’s Head Professional.
In a jam-packed field earlier this month, 180 golfers took part in the annual Caesarea Golf Club Championship. Participants played on the immaculately groomed Pete Dye layout in scorching sunny conditions.Trophies were awarded in several different categories at a concluding ceremony that also served to inaugurate the newly installed observation deck which affords a panoramic view of the first and eighteenth holes. Players also played from the brandnew tee box on the first hole, which offers the opportunity to approach the pin from a more advantageous, yet challenging, angle.The tournament marked the end of Andy Santos’s 18-year tenure as the club’s Head Professional. Santos is returning to California to become Head Professional at a club near San Jose. Long-time head of the Caesarea Golf Club’s teaching staff, Boaz Segev, has been named as his replacement.Here are this year’s winners: 10-years-old and younger – Itai Cohen Girls 18 and under – Champion: Eden Bichachi (163), 2nd place: Ophir Koren, 3rd place: Dana Lerner. Boys 14 and under – Tommy Santos (157), Alon Solomon, Daniel Edri.Boys 15-18 – Eitan Solomon (157), Itai Eitani, Niv Tesler. Net Silver League – Shlomo Ivgi, Aharon Bakshi, Tamir Gilat.Net Gold League – Kobi Koren, Yaacov Weitz, Gidon Drimmer.Men Super Seniors (75 and older) – Net: Itsik Ariel, Leon Leboff, Said Elias. Gross: Mica Kanitz, John Wollberg, David Stein.Men Grand Seniors (65-74) – Net: Moshe Ben Dov, Meir Assayag, Eli Betesh.Gross: Charlie Ozan, Yaacov Avnaeim, Amos Aharoni.Ladies Senior – Net: Mimi Banister, Serena Toblaeim. Gross: Roie Edelman, Eitan Solomon, Dolev Gueta.In other golf news around the country, the Ga’ash Golf Club and Cigar Magazine held a nine-hole par-3 tournament, with club pro Chris Ward preparing the holes to range from 90 meters to 143 meters.Played in the late afternoon, 52 golfers participated in a stroke play format with handicaps being 25% divided in half.Atop the leaderboard, on net 26, were Itzik Ashkenazi and Shmulik Futeran, with Ashkenazi winning on the count-back.Ashkenazi played the nine holes with a birdie, seven pars and a bogey giving him gross 27 and, playing off a one handicap, a net 26. Futeran, meanwhile, had seven pars and a pair of bogies giving him a gross 29 and, playing off a three handicap, a net 26.Third place, on net 29, went to Yehudit Merdler.The nearest-to-the-pin prize, sponsored by Cigar, went to Eli Chitayat.At the awards ceremony in Greenfield at Ga’ash, Cigar’s general manager, Shmuel Tal, thanked Ga’ash CEO Gili Peleg for hosting the tournament, as well as the Akerman Company, which provided refreshing Beluga vodka cocktails at the end of the round.Alsoat Ga’ash, Roy Cooper notched a hole-in-one earlier this month, on the par-3 fourth hole, which was playing 110 meters.
