Smashnova defeated by Hantuchova's comeback

Hantuchova breaks Smashnova in seventh game of third set, continues to win the set 6-3.

Anna Smashnova was two points away from advancing to the second round of the J&S Cup in Warsaw on Tuesday afternoon however an unlikely comeback by number nine seed Slovakian Daniela Hantuchova gave her a 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 win over the Israeli. The match was a tight affair from the start with neither player managing to open up a lead. After the first nine games of the match went according to serve, the Israeli number two broke Hantuchova in the crucial 10th game and won the set. The second set developed in a similar way to the first, with the early games being won by the server and Smashnova getting the first break. The Israeli broke Hantuchova in the seventh game and set herself up for the win. Smashnova, ranked 41 in the world, served for the match leading 5-4 but couldn‚t hold on to her serve and lost the game and eventually the set 7-5. Hantuchova broke Smashnova in the seventh game of the third set and continued with ease to win the set 6-3 and advance to the second round.
