Ice Skating: Syken, Shipov win national ice titles

Syken finished with a score of 89.26 points and Shipov had a personal best of 144.57 at the National Center for Winter Sports in Metulla.

Jenna Syken won the ladies title at the national ice skating championships over the weekend, while Maxim Shipov triumphed in the men's section. Syken finished with a score of 89.26 points and Shipov had a personal best of 144.57 at the National Center for Winter Sports in Metulla. In the pairs competition Ekaterina and Fedor Sokolov came out first with a new personal best score of 142.60. The Sokolov's performances included a high triple twist and a clean triple throw jump among other elements. In the ice dance, Israeli brother and sister duo Alexandra and Roman Zaretsky won out, scoring 169.93 points. The Zaretsky's showed off a new original dance and the display was described by Israel Ice Skating Federation as their "best skate so far this season." This year the novice category was also included in the event. Yafit Asaf was in fourth place in the novice girls competition after the short programme but had a clean free skate and climbed four places to win the title from Dasha Dashanov who was leading after the short. Asaf finished with a total points score of 71.22. Last year's novice boys champion Ilan Anchipolovsky, lost the title to Artiom Zuglin, who is barely 11-years-old. Anchipolovsky was leading after the short, but made a few errors in the free and gave the title to Zuglin who had total points score of 68.47. In the Junior ladies, Sofia Bardakov retained her title, finishing with a total of 90.18 points. Meanwhile, Ariana Weintraub and Avidan Brown were crowned junior ice dance champions with a total of 111.49 points.
