Niki Palli cleared 2.28 meters on Monday to improve on his own junior high-jump mark on the second day of the junior national track & field championships Monday at Hadar Yosef.
Palli, 19, won a bronze medal at the European juniors last year and is seen as one of the top young jumpers in the world today. The previous junior mark, set by Palli last year, was 2.25m.
Konstantin Matusevich holds the Israeli record with a 2.36m effort from 2000. Palli is now second in the alltime Israeli top 10.
