Games We Play - Golf: Brosh, Schwartz, win Purim Tourney

Shai Brosh and Dan Schwartz won the Texas Scramble Purim competition at the Ga'ash Golf Club on Tuesday. A full field of 60 golfers enjoyed a fun day which ended with a cocktail and prize-giving ceremony at the Albatross restaurant. The serious aspect was the golf in the "Texas Scramble" format which means both players in the team tee off and then both players play from the best position the ball landed in. A limit of ten drives is the maximum one player can hit, so they need to give thought to the tactics. The players are also limited to 25 percent of their combined handicaps. To lighten the atmosphere before Purim, all the players played the "scramble" in fancy dress costumes. Brosh and Schwartz played the first nine with seven pars and two birdies giving them a total of 33 shots and came in the back nine with three birdies, four pars and two bogies giving them a total of 34 shots. Playing off a combined seven handicap gave them the Gaash Purim 2008 title with a net-60. In second place were Yuval Harari and Dudu Tor with a net-62. On net-65 were both pairs of Gil Bianco & Itzik Edelman and Nissim Levy & Rony Zyc with Gil and Itzik winning on the count-out. The Wine Center at Ga'ash's "Nearest to the Pin" prizes went to Brosh on hole 4, being only 75 cm from the pin. On hole 9, Yuval Harari was 2.4m from the Pin and on the difficult 14th hole Ezer Yaacobi was 1.57m from the Pin. The Ladies 2008 knock-out competition was won by Ariella Halkin who beat her close friend, Aliza Ophir, two up with one hole to go. Playing in the local Ladies Day tournament, Esther Malka had a hole-in-one on the 4th hole, par three playing 104 meters.
