MKs will decide who reviews their salaries, appointing members to a public committee on the matter in a Knesset House Committee meeting on Monday.
Professor Reuven Grunau, chairman of the Knesset Public Committee for the last 10 years, finished his term, and the new chairman will be Prof. Haim Levi, former dean of the Hebrew University School of Business Administration.
The Knesset Public Committee decides whether or not MKs should get a raise or not, and includes three public representatives – including at least one university professor.
The other two committee members are Haggai Sitton, an attorney, judge in the Bar Association’s internal court, and former chairman of several museums, and Prof.
Ivan Friedman, chairman of the antiquities authority and head of the General History Department at Bar-Ilan University.
The Public Committee was founded in 1994.
Until then, Knesset Speakers appointed public figures to review lawmakers’ salaries, but were not legally required to do so.
