Police announced on Monday the arrest of a 20-year-old Jerusalem man who is suspected of raping a 12-year-old girl with Down’s syndrome in a stairwell downtown, and attempting to rape another girl a week later in the Gilo neighborhood.Nisim Zada, 20, was arrested last Wednesday, and on Tuesday the court extended his detention.According to police, around two weeks ago at about 7 a.m., he saw the 12-year-old girl waiting outside a synagogue downtown, where her father had entered to pray. Zada then dragged her into a building in one of the alleys between Rehov Hillel and Rehov Shammai and raped her, police said.Two cleaners happened on Zada and the victim in the middle of the incident, so he dragged her into the Aroma café on Rehov Hillel Street.Aroma employees called the police when they saw Zada forcefully dragging the victim into the bathroom. They knocked on the door and yelled at him to let her go, and he fled the scene.About a week later, police were called to Gilo following reports of a 20-year-old man trying to rape a young girl on Rehov Arye ben Eliezer. The girl managed to escape before the rape took place, and police arrested the man. They later identified him as the attacker from the rape a few days earlier, using security video from the coffee shop.Zada’s mother told the Hebrew media that her son had been imprisoned before, adding that she had pleaded with the Prisons Service to put him in some kind of framework or hospitalize him, but that she was unsuccessful.
