Turkey earthquake partly collapses building

An earthquake which shook southeastern Turkey on Wednesday partly collapsed a building, trapping a woman, the local governor said. Teams were trying to rescue the woman in the town of Sivrice in Elazig province, said Gov. Muammer Musmal. The US Geological Survey said the quake had a preliminary magnitude of 5.7. Five aftershocks, the strongest with a magnitude of 3.6, followed as authorities warned residents not to enter damaged buildings. The tremor sent people into the streets in panic and damaged some buildings, including a school and a post office. No other injuries were reported. The quake was also felt in the neighboring provinces of Diyarbakir, Tunceli and Malatya, reports said.
