FBI Director Mueller makes surprise Beirut stop

FBI Director Robert Mueller on Thursday made a surprise visit to Beirut, the first ever by an FBI director to Lebanon, the US Embassy and Lebanese security officials said. Mueller met with Lebanese government officials, including Prime Minister Fuad Saniora, and visited the site of the explosion that killed former Premier Rafik Hariri on February 14. A US Embassy statement said the purpose of his visit, part of an ongoing trip throughout the region, was "to learn about Lebanese government efforts to improve their criminal investigation capabilities, with the goal of enhancing the security and safety of all Lebanese."
