Egyptian authorities have detained three more members of the banned Muslim Brotherhood, bringing to 15 the number seized in a weeklong sweep, police and group officials said Sunday.
The three were taken from their houses in Giza, a Cairo suburb, for questioning, said a police official. Abdel-Moneim Abdel-Maqsoud, a Brotherhood lawyer, said police have not filed charges against the three, whom he identified as Ezzat Sabri, Anwar Shaltout and Osama Rifaat.
On Friday, seven Brotherhood members were arrested in Cairo and other Egyptian cities. Earlier, five others were detained, including 70-year-old senior member Rashad al-Bayoumi.
In a statement, the group denounced the sweep as an "oppressive operation."
