Authorities arrest 9 members of Egypt's banned Muslim Brotherhood

Egypt's largest opposition movement, the Muslim Brotherhood, said police have arrested nine of its members in dawn raids in the latest crackdown on the group. Police confirmed the arrest. A list of names for those detained in Sunday's raid was posted on the group's official Web site. The arrested hailed from Egypt's northern province of Sharqiya, a stronghold for the group. Though officially banned, the Brotherhood compete in politics as independents and hold a fifth of the seats in parliament. The government has carried out a steady campaign of arrests against the organization.
