Arafat Web site offers glimpse at besieged bedroom

Yasser Arafat's official Web site has posted pictures it says show the late Palestinian leader's frugal room where he slept while under IDF siege. The pictures show a single bed, lamp and a closet containing Arafat's iconic wardrobe: five military-style suits and four checkered black-and-white Palestinian scarfs. Arafat lived under IDF siege for two years at his West Bank compound, or Mukata, after Israel accused him of being behind a wave of suicide bombings. He died in November 2004. His bedroom contained no windows and could only be accessed through a guard's room, precautions against possible assassination. Arafat is buried in the West Bank compound, and the bedroom will be incorporated into a museum documenting his life.
