By COMPILEDJULIE STEIGERWALDLake Kinneret(photo credit: PR)CENTERAll of the pieces will fall into place at the fifth annual Rubik’s Cube championship in Israel, which will take place in Ra’anana on August 16 and 17.The event is open to contestants aged six to 80 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the city’s sport complex.The competition will host varied heats, including solving the 3-D puzzle cube in under a minute, solving it with eyes closed and solving it using only one hand.The competition is recognized by the World Cube Association, and is organized this year by Amit Sheffer and Dror Vomberg.A record number of nearly 200 participants are expected to take part in the event. Registration and attendance at the event are free: https://www.worldcubeassociation.org/competitions/IsraelChampionship2016/ registrationsTA Municipality to halt services August 14-22The Tel Aviv-Jaffa Municipality will suspend reception and telephone hotline services from August 14 to 22 in light of the institution’s allotted time off for employees during the summer.During the nine-day period, the municipal registry offices will also be closed and no recreational activities will take place in the municipality building.However, the city’s 106 (dial *9106 from mobile phones) dispatch hotline service will remain in operation, as will the city’s sanitation services, water control and beach and traffic administration. The municipality’s health, culture and sport administration will also remain in operation, as will city community centers, during the period that city hall is closed.NORTH Kinneret rescue service extended during August Rescue services on the beaches of Lake Kinneret (the Sea of Galilee) have been extended until 7 p.m. throughout August, including weekends.Previously, rescue service personnel served until 5 p.m. daily. The Galilee Cities Association and the Kinneret Authority decided to implement the new schedule, due to the prolonged stay of beachgoers during the summer. As part of the effort, lifeguards and emergency response personnel will extend their services on 15 beaches in the area.Kiryat Bialik workers learn how to save lives Dozens of municipal workers from Kiryat Bialik took part in a training course that began last week to learn lifesaving techniques from emergency medical service staff of Magen David Adom. The program will run through August.As those charged with providing services to the residents of the city, the municipal employees decided to take the 20-hour Life Guardians course independent of their work schedule, to learn first aid procedures.Participants in the course included municipal security officials, the urban hotline manager, city supervisors and police officers, along with various other employees who provide a range of services to local citizens.Kiryat Bialik Mayor Eli Dokorski has lauded the effort and thanked the participants and MDA for their cooperation in the venture.“I’m happy about the great response of the city employees participating in this important course,” he said. “All departments that provide services to the residents sent their representatives, to enable them to give a fast response and save lives when necessary.”SOUTH White-hot White Night coming to BeershebaBeersheba is gearing up for its annual celebration of the all-night White Night spectacle on August 25.The night’s festivities will begin at 8 p.m. at several locations throughout the city. Events include musical performances by top Israeli artists, outdoor culture and art activities, and various dance, theater and art productions and exhibitions.Rock band T-Slam along with singers Danny Sanderson and Gidi Gov are due to take the stage at the amphitheater in Beersheba’s River Park at 9 p.m., with doors opening at 8 p.m.The hip-hop infused Latin beats of reggaeton are set to fill the air at an event taking place on the lawn outside the Beersheba Youth Center at 11 p.m. The event will feature Israeli rappers Alon da Loco and Subliminal.Beersheba’s Old City will also feature a variety of compounds and events, including at the Negev Artists’ House, where the eclectic Pincas and Sons band will give a free performance.
