We remember

In memory of the 18 sons, six daughters, four grandchildren and one husband who are always with these women and in the hearts, mind and prayers of the country.

1. ELAD ABU-GANI
On January 14, 2002, Miri Abu-Gani’s son, Sgt. Elad Abu-Gani, 19, of Tiberias, was killed in a terrorist ambush near Kusin, in Shavei Shomron, between Nablus and Tulkarm. Miri and her husband Eldad, and three older children, live in Tiberias, where she manages a hair salon and a club for the elderly.
2. RONEN REUVENOV AMAR
On February 25, 2005, Rivka Amar’s son, Ronen Reuvenov, 30, of Tel Aviv, was one of five people killed when a suicide bomber blew himself up outside the Stage club on the Tel Aviv promenade.
The Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility. Ronen was at the club organizing a surprise party. Single mother Rivka raised her son and daughter, Orly, working as a nanny, and has since remarried.
3. ITZIK AMSALEM
On November 15, 2012, Aliza Amsalem’s son, Itzik Amsalem, 24, of Kiryat Malachi, was killed in the building where he lived by a direct hit of a rocket fired from Gaza. A recently new observant Jew, Itzik went out to the balcony to photograph the Iron Dome, as his mother begged him to take cover with her in the stairwell. After his death, she sold the apartment and moved to Ashkelon with her husband and five children, where she works as a nanny.
4. ARIELLA FAHIMA
On December 21, 2004, Alice Attar’s daughter, Ariella Fahima, 39, of Nehusha, a moshav south of Beit Shemesh, was stabbed to death at her front door, apparently by a terrorist who infiltrated the perimeter fence. She had returned home with a friend from shopping at the market in Beit Shemesh shortly after noon. It’s assumed she put down her groceries at the door, and then she went outside to the yard, where her throat was slit and she was repeatedly stabbed. Her body was discovered by her 12-year-old daughter, returning from school. Alice is mother of four, a retired ICU nurse, and hosts OF get-togethers with her husband in Ashkelon.
5. AVI BAYAZ
On May 7, 2002, Yehudit Bayaz’s son, Avi Bayaz, 26, of Ness Ziona, was one of 15 people killed when a suicide bomber detonated a powerful charge in the unlicensed gaming Sheffield Club in Rishon Lezion. Hamas claimed responsibility.
Kindergarten teacher Yehudit, whose remaining children Eliran, Gil and Lior live nearby, frequents OF support groups in Rehovot.
6. OPHIR DAMARI
On Sunday, March 14, 2004, Rachel Damari’s son, Ophir Damari, 31, of Rehovot, was one of 10 people killed in a double suicide bombing at Ashdod Port, where he worked. Fatah claimed responsibility. Ophir was married with two children, Noa, just under two, and Guy, seven months. Retired kindergarten teacher, Rachel and her husband Shlomo, who retired from the Port, regularly attend OF support groups.
7. MOSHE YA’ACOV HENDLER
On March 14, 2004, Tzipi Hendler’s son, Moshe Ya’acov Hendler, 29, of Rehovot, was killed in the same attack as Ophir Damari.
8. AVIV HAKANI
On May 12, 2004, Edna Hakani’s son, Capt. Aviv Hakani, 23, of Ashdod, was one of five IDF soldiers killed when their armored personnel carrier was hit by an antitank rocket. They were transporting dozens of kilograms of explosives to be used to detonate weapon-smuggling tunnels.
The eldest of her three children, Aviv, was known to everyone as a “tunnels officer”. Recently, his sister finished her army service in the special tunnel brigade her brother established.
Edna took early retirement as an elementary homeroom teacher in Ashdod.
9. AVI KAROUCHI
On June 19, 2005, Shoshana Karouchi’s son, Sgt.-Maj. Avi Karouchi, was killed as a result of a coordinated Palestinian attack in which RPG missiles and gunfire were fired at an IDF engineering force conducting construction work on the Israeli-Egyptian border.
10. DALIA LEMKUS
On November 10, 2014, Brenda Lemkus’s daughter, Dalia Lemkus, 26, of Tekoa, was stabbed to death at a bus stop near the entrance to Alon Shvut. She had previously been lightly wounded in another stabbing attack at the Gush Etzion junction in February 2006, at the age of 17.
11. RACHEL LEVI
On February 14, 2001, Henia Levi’s daughter, Sgt. Rachel Levi, 19, of Ashkelon, was one of eight killed when a Palestinian crashed a bus into a crowded bus stop at Azor junction, south of Tel Aviv. It was the deadliest Palestinian attack on Israelis in four years.
12. ISRAEL LUTATI
On September 23, 2004, Racheli Lutati’s son, St.-Sgt. Israel Lutati, 20, of Neveh Dekalim, was one of three soldiers killed by Palestinian terrorists who infiltrated the military post near the community of Morag in the southern Gaza Strip.
Two Fatah-related terrorist groups and the Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility.
13. TALI, HILA, HADAR, RONI and MERAV HATUEL
On May 2, 2004, Suzi Malka’s daughter, Tali Hatuel, 34, and her daughters Hila, 11, Hadar, nine, Roni, seven, and Merav, two, of Katif in the Gaza Strip were killed when two Palestinian terrorists fired on an Israeli car at the entrance to the Gush Katif settlement bloc.
14. BARUCH MIZRAHI
On April 14, 2014, Hadas Mizrahi’s husband, Ch.-Supt. Baruch Mizrahi, 47, of Modi’in, was killed in a terrorist shooting near the village of Idna, northeast of Hebron. He was traveling with Hadas and four of their five children to participate in a Passover Seder with his wife’s family when the terrorist opened fire with an automatic weapon, wounding Hadas and one of the children.
15. NETANEL MOSHIASHVILI
On June 1, 2012, Marina Moshiashvili’s son, Staff Sgt. Netanel Moshiashvili, 21, of Ashkelon, was killed early in the morning when a terrorist identified Israel from the southern Gaza Strip opened fire at IDF soldiers.
16. AVRAHAM DAVIS MOSES
On March 6, 2008, Rivka Moriah’s son, Avraham David Moses Moriah, 16, of Efrat, was one of eight students killed when a Palestinian terrorist infiltrated the Merkaz Harav Kook yeshiva in Jerusalem and opened fire in the crowded library.
17. OSHRI OZ
On May 27, 2007, Shulamit Oz’s son, Oshri Oz, 36, of Hod Hasharon, was killed when a Kassam rocket landed near his car in Sderot. Hamas claimed responsibility.
18. UZI PERETZ
On May 29, 2005, Juliette Peretz’s son, Cpl. Uzi Peretz, 20, of Beersheba, was killed and three other soldiers wounded in a Hezbollah attack in the Mount Dov region of the Israel-Lebanon border.
19. GADI RAHAMIM
On November 15, 2002, Tzila Rahamim’s son, Border Police Sgt. Gad Rahamim, 19, of Kiryat Malachi, was one of 12 people killed, nine soldiers and three civilians from the Kiryat Arba emergency response team, and 15 wounded in Hebron when Palestinian terrorists opened fire and threw grenades at a group of Jewish worshipers and their guards as they were walking home from Friday evening prayers at the Cave of the Patriarchs.
20. MICHAL RAZIEL
On August 9, 2001, Aviva Raziel’s daughter, Michal Raziel, 16, of Jerusalem, was one of 15 people killed by a suicide at the Sbarro pizzeria in the capital.
21. ADI SALIM
On August 9, 2006 Shoshana Salim’s son, St.- Sgt. Adi Salim, 22, of Beit Hashmonai was one of nine paratroopers killed and 11 wounded by antitank missiles fired on a house in the village of Debel, in the Center.
22. YEHOSHUA SOFER
On June 14, 2010, Dalia Sofer’s son, Sgt.-Maj. Yehoshua (Shuki) Sofer, 39, of Beersheba was killed and three policemen wounded when Palestinian terrorists opened fire on their vehicle at Al Fawar junction south of Hebron on Route 60.
Engaged to be married, with invitations in the mail, Shuki succumbed to his wounds before the paramedics arrived, tormenting his mother Dalia to this day.
23. SHARON TUBOL
On October 21, 2002, Lea Tubol’s daughter, Cpl.
Sharon Tubol, 19, of Arad, was one of 14 killed when a bus was blown up in a suicide attack by a terrorist driving an explosives-laden jeep near the Karkur junction. She was on special leave from the army, where she served on a northern base, to prepare for her sister Miri’s wedding the same day.
Lea’s husband soon died of heart failure. Lea is an accomplished portrait painter and singer living in Beersheba.
24. YAIR NISIM TURGEMANN
On October 19, 2004, Michal Turgemann’s son, St.-Sgt. Yair Nisim Turgemann, 22, of Kiryat Arba, was killed at an IDF base near Mevo Dotan in Samaria when Palestinian gunmen opened fire from PA territory west of the community. Fatah’s al-Aksa Martyrs Brigade claimed responsibility.
A retired teacher and mother of five, Michal’s youngest son, Pinchas Yosef, died of kidney disease.
Michal is a community leader in Kiryat Arba.
25. DANIEL VIFLIC
On April 17, 2011, Tamar Viflic’s son, Daniel Viflic, 16, of Bet Shemesh, died of wounds suffered 10 days earlier when an antitank missile was fired at his school bus in the Negev near Kibbutz Sa’ad.
Mother of two older children, Tamar is a dental hygienist.
