Deri to support Porush in Jerusalem mayoral race

Less than a week before the Jerusalem mayoral election, former Shas leader Arieh Deri is planning to campaign for the haredi mayoral hopeful, MK Meir Porush of the United Torah Judaism Party. The move comes nearly a month after a Jerusalem court ruled that the Shas strongman could not take run in the November 11 elections due to his past criminal convictions, and as Porush continues to poll a distant second in the race behind NIr Barkat. The two men, who met on Wednesday, had previously been at loggerheads over Deri's desire to run in the race despite Porush's candidacy. The tete a tete came after = Shas spiritual leader Rabbi Ovadia Yossef announced his support for Porush.
