Gardens open gates to the public

Haifa's renowned Bahai Gardens are taking the rare step of opening their gates to the public today (Friday, April 3), while the historic German Colony at the foot of the gardens is holding a street festival in celebration of the naming of both sites as UNESCO World Heritage Sites, reports www.local.co.il. Normally, visitors are only allowed into the gardens on pre-booked tours. According to the report, the Bahai Gardens will be open to the public from 12 noon to 5 p.m. today, and visitors will be able to wander up and down the famous landscaped terraces, view the gardeners at work, and take part in activities for parents and children. In addition, the German Colony is putting on a street festival, with giant chalk drawings on the sidewalks and musical and cultural displays. The report said roads in the area will be closed to vehicles for the day, but free shuttle buses will run from Sderat Ben Gurion to the gardens and back again.
