World Chess Championship opens in Beersheba

 
The World Chess Championship opened Tuesday in Beersheba. Israel, ranked fifth in the world, was hosting the 10-day event for the first time. Sixty players were set to participate in the eight-round competition, being held at Yad Lebanim. The games were to be broadcast live on the internet at www.wccisrael.com.
