Two Israeli border police officers have been sentenced to 22 months in prison by the Jerusalem District Court for illegally stealing weapons and ammunition and then selling them for personal gain, the Justice Ministry announced Thursday.
The two paramilitary police officers, Yitzhak Cohen, 24, and Ya'acov Segal, 22, were convicted in the same court earlier this year as part of a plea bargain on weapons-related charges: Theft and fraud for stealing ammunition and weapons and then selling them for thousands of shekels over the course of two years.
The two were arrested in June after selling the weapons to an undercover police officer who was investigating the case.
The sentencing meted out by the Jerusalem court on Tuesday was the maximum possible sentence for such crimes, the justice ministry said.
