Israel Bar chairman Shlomo Cohen on Sunday protested against a paragraph in the Economic Arrangements Law calling for the appointment of "associate judges" to the magistrate's and district courts from among the retired judges.
Cohen's primary complaint is that the innovation is being introduced through a potpourri law including many different topics, none of which are considered seriously by the Knesset.
According to the amendment, "associate judges" would be appointed jointly by the Minister of Justice and the President of the Supreme Court for one year at a time and only up to the age of 75.
