A 17-year-old Palestinian armed with a knife was arrested Thursday at a security checkpoint on the outskirts of Jerusalem, police said.
The teen, a resident of the West Bank city of Hebron, was apprehended at the Atarot checkpoint just north of the city after carrying a false I.D.
Police later found a knife hidden in his possession.
During his initial interrogation, the suspect told police that he was sent by Hamas to "stab soldiers and Jews," said Jerusalem police spokesman, Shmuel Ben-Ruby.
