Orlev lashes out at Eldad: 'I could not believe my ears'

MK Zevulun Orlev (NRP) lashed out at fellow party member Arye Eldad Monday evening after the latter said in reference to negotiations with Syria that anyone who acts to hand over Israeli territory to others should be punished with "death." "I heard your statement with shock...and could not believe my eyes or ears," Orlev wrote to Eldad. "Before we have recovered as a society and a nation from the politically motivated murder of prime minister Yitzhak Rabin, comes your call which gives approval for another political murder of a prime minister." Orlev wrote that despite Eldad's referral to treason laws, it was obvious that his comments were perceived as - and could be interpreted as - a call to assassinate the prime minister. This, he wrote, was completely unacceptable according to the law and Jewish 'halacha' and could lead to "the collapse of democracy."
