Interior Ministry prompts timely passport renewal

The Interior Ministry's Population Registry is ironing out a plan to encourage Israelis to apply for and/or renew passports in winter months, rather than waiting until peak travel season. The ministry decided to institute the plan after a study showed that many Israelis tended to wait until the last minute before leaving for summer vacation to renew their documentation, and often fail to do so until arriving at Ben-Gurion Airport, where the renewal process costs more. If implemented, the plan would offer discounts to citizens who plan ahead, helping ease the Population Registry's summer work bottleneck.
