The mayor of the northern Druse town Hurfeish, Rekad Kheredin, wrote Prime Minister Ehud Olmert on Sunday, informing him that he had left Kadima for the Likud to protest Kadima's handling of the North and the Druse sector.
Kheredin, a reserve Lt.-Col. in the IDF, met Likud chairman Binyamin Netanyahu and faction chair Gideon Sa'ar before he made the decision.
Kheredin, whose town was hit by many Hizbullah rockets last summer, said Kadima ministers broke promises to bridge the gap between funding for Jewish and Druse local authorities and delayed payments to his local council.
"I hope a stable government with more experienced leadership can fix the problems," Kheredin said.
