A. B. Yehoshua: Olmert gov't should stay in place

Renowned author A. B. Yehoshua said Sunday that Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and his government should remain in power if they manage to regain the confidence of the Knesset and renew peace talks with the Palestinians. In an interview with Israel Radio, Yehoshua said that leaders had made serious oversights in the past, and then returned to senior positions in which they initiated important peace processes. The author said that the main failure during the Second Lebanon War came from the weakness of the IDF, which, he said, has become a policing force in recent years. He added that blame for the errors lay with the intermediate and junior military ranks as well as with the senior officers.
