40 world leaders to attend Rabin memorial ceremony

Forty world leaders are expected to come to Israel to honor the memory of slain Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin. Ceremonies commemorating Rabin's assassination were planned for this week, coinciding with the anniversary of the murder. The family of Rabin's murder, Yigal Amir, recently renewed a push for Amir's release, on the grounds that Amir should serve a shorter sentence for murdering a criminal. A survey conducted by Mina Zemach revealed that 20% of Israelis support releasing Amir. MK Danny Yatom (Likud) spoke out against this new data in an interview on Israel Radio, saying that it highlights the need to instruct the young generation on the importance of democracy.
