Peretz reached out to the periphery and said, “When I will be prime minister, there will not be a single hungry child and there will not be a downtrodden elderly person.”

Labor Party leadership candidate Amir Peretz unveiled his new slogan for the July 4 race at an event at Tel Aviv’s Beit Sokolov on Tuesday attended by MKs, mayors and hundreds of supporters from around the country.
The slogan – “Amir Peretz: The Only One Who Can” – is an effort to remind voters that he takes support from traditional Likud strongholds in the periphery and brings them to Labor.
To prove that claim, Peretz’s strategist Shmulik Cohen showed data from the 2006 election in which Peretz competed against Netanyahu that was won by Ehud Olmert.
Peretz reached out to the periphery and said, “When I will be prime minister, there will not be a single hungry child and there will not be a downtrodden elderly person.”
The other candidates in the race are incumbent Isaac Herzog; MK Erel Margalit; MK Omer Bar Lev; former environmental protection minister Avi Gabbay; former head of the IDF Northern Command Amiram Levin; historian Avner Ben-Zaken; Ra’anana Labor activist Hod Karubi; and social activist Dina Dayan.
Three debates among the candidates will be held throughout the country.
