The IDF will start vaccinating its soldiers, officers and health personnel by the end of December.
The first person to receive the vaccine will be Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Aviv Kochavi, the IDF said, to “set an example and to encourage soldiers to get vaccinated.”
Soldiers will be taken to regional vaccination compounds in accordance with the special transportation formation that was put in place during the coronavirus outbreak.

The first round of vaccines will be given to military health personnel. The second round will be given to soldiers with preexisting health problems, combat soldiers, those in critical support roles and senior officers.
The soldiers’ health and maintaining the military’s operational readiness are the main goals, the IDF said.
The operation will be carried out in cooperation with the Health Ministry, with strict adherence to the vaccination process, including the storage conditions of the vaccine and the timing of the second vaccination.
It likely will be similar to the flu vaccinations the army conducts, which are not mandatory but are encouraged by commanding officers.
As of Thursday, a decision to make coronavirus vaccines mandatory for soldiers did not appear likely.
High-ranking officers are deliberating further steps, a person familiar with the matter told The Jerusalem Post.
