Detectives investigating murder in Hura attacked by rock-throwing mob

Police in the Beduin village of Hura were attacked by a rock-throwing mob that tried to draw the officers away from a getaway car used in a murder the day before, police said Monday.
On Monday, police issued a pre-indictment motion against eight residents of the village who they say threw rocks at the officers working at the crime scene. During the commotion one suspect tried to sneak up to the vehicle and set it alight while police were securing the area, in a failed attempt to destroy evidence.
The incident on Sunday began hours after a local Hura man was gunned down in a drive-by shooting near the Israeli town Meitar. The man was found critically wounded in his pick-up truck, which was riddled with more than 18 bullets.
Investigators searching Hura found the getaway vehicle used in the murder hours later at a local village cemetery and began closing off the area when they were attacked by rock-throwers, the Negev subdistrict spokesman said Monday.
Sunday’s murder came two days after another Hura man was shot dead, and it is believed to be a reprisal killing.
Both murders are part of a long-running local feud in the Beduin village.
Negev police said Monday they remain on high alert and will continue their reinforced patrols in the village and surrounding areas until further notice.
