Israeli screenwriter Adi Hasak is developing a TV series in Europe about the 1972 massacre at the Munich Olympics.
Hasak – creator of the NBC cop drama Shades of Blue – is spearheading the drama, titled Margeaux, for the Scandinavian streaming service Viaplay and the global distribution company Kew Media.
The series, says Viaplay’s parent company NENT Group, will be told from the perspective of both an Israeli Mossad psychologist and a Palestinian terrorist coordinator, and will be filmed in Hebrew, Arabic, English and German.
The series follows the real life story of the hostage-taking and murder of 11 members of the Israeli Olympic team by Palestinian terrorists at the games in Munich in 1972. The most famous Hollywood adaptation of the story is the 2005 film Munich – directed by Steven Spielberg.
According to Deadline, the upcoming show will “present both sides of the story and explore the personal and psychological scars of everyone involved as they spiraled into a cycle of violence.”
Hasak was born in the Netherlands and grew up in Israel, and experienced a terrorist attack as a child, said NENT Group. He later went on to serve for seven years as a paratrooper in the IDF.
“A meditation on violence and terrorism, gender politics, gay rights, redemption and love – Margeaux offers a unique perspective on who we used to be, and what has led to who we are today,” Hasak said in a statement. “I’m thrilled to have the enthusiastic support of NENT Group and Kew Media as producing partners and distributors in this unique and international character-driven franchise.”
