The ministry’s campaign is calling on the public to invite over senior citizens who have nowhere to go for the Passover seder. Senior citizens can register by calling *8840.

“This year we’re saving a seat not just for Eliyahu” is the slogan of a new campaign by the Ministry of Social Equality aimed at brightening up Passover for the thousands of lonely seniors in Israel.
The ministry’s campaign is calling on the public to invite over senior citizens who have nowhere to go for the Passover seder. Senior citizens can register by calling *8840 and the ministry will pair them up with families volunteering to host them.
The campaign is being publicized through radio broadcasts, ads, banners and social networks. The campaign’s message draws on the statement in the Hagaddah “All who are hungry, come and eat” and the Jewish custom of expecting Eliyahu as a guest. In a similar vein, the campaign calls for the public to make a place for senior citizens.
“This year we’re doing a social seder and inviting senior citizens over for the Seder night,” Minister for Social Equality Gila Gamliel said. “I call to anyone who can host on the Seder night to invite senior citizens to the holiday meal.”
