Israeli envoy: 'Disgrace' UN food agency invited Ahmadinejad to summit

The Israeli ambassador to Italy was quoted on Saturday as saying it was "a disgrace" that the UN food agency invited the Iranian president to attend a world food summit. Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who has called for the destruction of Israel, is expected in Rome for a world food summit Tuesday through Thursday, organized by the Rome-based Food and Agriculture Organization. "To imagine on the podium of a UN organization a leader who calls for the destruction of a member state is a disgrace for every democrat," Ambassador Gideon Meier was quoted as saying in an interview in the daily La Repubblica. "And let's not talk about the rest. He denies the Holocaust, he is the principal actor behind terrorism, he has a military nuclear program, he violates human rights of the Iranian people."
