Iran says Western nations are "bullying" economically-challenged Zimbabwe and has promised to fully support President Robert Mugabe's government in the face of mounting international pressure, it was reported Wednesday.
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad told Mugabe - who is on a four-day state visit to Teheran - that Iran backed Zimbabwe's controversial programme of white land seizures and would continue to support the struggling southern African nation in the face of what he called "Western machinations to isolate Harare," Zimbabwe's state- controlled Herald newspaper reported.
"We condemn the efforts and pressure put on Zimbabwe by a few bully nations. We are going to stand side-by-side with the government and people of Zimbabwe," Ahmadinejad was quoted as saying.
