US envoy: We want normal relations with N. Korea

US Ambassador to South Korea Alexander Vershbow said Tuesday that Washington wants to have normal relations with North Korea, urging Pyongyang not to test a missile and instead return to international nuclear talks. "We want to achieve a negotiated solution to the nuclear issue and we would like to establish more normal relations with North Korea through the six-party process ... we hope that they don't carry out the test" Vershbow said after meeting with former South Korean President Kim Dae-Jung to discuss his planned visit to the North next week. The six-party talks on the North's nuclear program have been stalled since November, with the North refusing to attend in anger over a US crackdown on its alleged illegal financial activity.
