Britain's military announced on Wednesday that one of its soldiers died during an operation against enemy forces in southern Afghanistan.
The British Ministry of Defense said that a solider from the 1st Battalion The Rifles was killed by enemy fire in Nad-e-Ali, an area northwest of Helmand's provincial capital, Lashkar Gah.
The military said that he was taken by helicopter to a military hospital for treatment but died of his wounds. The next of kin have been informed.
