UK: House of Lords backs release of BBC report on Middle East

Britain's House of Lords on Wednesday backed a lawyer's attempt to force the British Broadcasting Corp. to release an internal report on its coverage of the Middle East. The Lords divided 3-2 in favor on the effort by Steven Sugar to force the release of the report. Sugar believes the report should be disclosed as part of a debate about whether the BBC is biased against Israel. The Law Lords ruled that lower courts were wrong when they decided that the Information Tribunal had no authority to act in the case. The Law Lords sent the case back to the High Court to consider other issues raised by the BBC, which opposes release of what it calls a purely internal report.
