Pope Benedict XVI said Tuesday his visit to Turkey is aimed at promoting dialogue and bridging differences, shortly before departing from a Rome airport on his first trip as pontiff to a predominantly Muslim country.
It is a "trip of dialogue, brotherhood and reconciliation at this difficult moment in history," the pontiff said, speaking from Rome's Leonardo da Vinci airport.
