Hurricane Ivo forms off Mexico's Pacific coast

Tropical Storm Ivo was upgraded to a Category 1 hurricane late Wednesday but it was expected to weaken as it approaches Mexico's Pacific coast, the US National Hurricane Center said. The storm, centered roughly 950 kilometers (570 miles) south of the Baja California peninsula, was forecast to head northwest, then take a clockwise turn toward the Baja while weakening, the hurricane center said. Ivo had sustained winds of about 86 mph (138 kph) late Wednesday. "There is a chance for Ivo to strengthen some during the next 24 to 36 hours," the hurricane center said in a statement. "Thereafter ... a gradual weakening is forecast since the shear is expected to increase."
