A French citizen has been released after being held by kidnappers in Venezuela for more than one year and has returned to France, the French Foreign Ministry said.
Christophe Beck, the former head of a metalworks company who moved to Venezuela in 1992 to run a cattle farm, was taken from his home in the southwestern state of Barinas at gunpoint on Dec. 13, 2005. It was unclear what the kidnappers were demanding in exchange for his return.
In a statement Sunday, French Foreign Minister Philippe Douste-Blazy said he was "delighted about the release of Christopher Beck and his return to his family in France."
