Al-Qaida supports Somalia's Islamist guerrillas

An Islamic militant Web site announced Thursday that Osama bin Laden's second-in-command would soon release a new message calling for Muslims to support the Islamist guerrillas in Somalia. The internet advertisement banner for Egyptian-born Ayman al-Zawahri, al-Qaida's No. 2, did not specify when exactly the message would be released, or whether it would be a video, an audiotape or a text. "Rush in support of your brothers in Somalia," the banner quoted al-Zawahri as saying. The announced message would be the first time al-Zawahri speaks out this year, after having boosted his media messages in 2006. Somalia's Islamic Courts rebels were routed by pro-government and Ethiopian troops earlier this week and chased from the capital.
