Back-to-Back liver transplants at Hadassah

Two livers were successfully transplanted in back-to-back operations at Hadassah-University Medical Center in Jerusalem's Ein Kerem on Sunday night and Monday. The first recipient was a 58-year-old man from the Rishon Lezion area who suffered from hepatitis C. A few hours later, a woman of the same age from the Haifa area, who suffers from the same disease, received her new liver. Both are hospitalized in the respiratory intensive care unit in stable condition. Both surgeries were performed by a team headed by Prof. Ahmed Eid, head of the transplant unit. Liver transplants are relatively rare due to the shortage of organs.
