KKL-JNF’s online 100,000 Tree Challenge is Israel’s biggest eco-tech project yet

This Tu Bishvat will see the biggest yet eco-tech project in Israel – KKL-JNF’s ambitious online public campaign to join the fight against climate change with the simple click of a button. The “Click to Plant” campaign aims to plant 100,000 trees in southern Israel. The actual plantings will be carried out by KKL-JNF foresters as part of KKL-JNF’s “Life Saving Trees” project, which plants trees along roads and communities in the Gaza Envelope as a green shield from being targeted by Gaza snipers.“The Israeli public gets to both help combat global warming and help keep the south of Israel safe”, explained KKL-JNF World Chairman Daniel Atar.Recent world events, such as the Australian wildfires that destroyed hundreds of millions of acres of forest and over a billion animals, and the destruction of millions of acres of rainforests in Brazil, bear witness to the devastating effects of climate change and global warming. The United Nations has determined that one the most effective ways of reducing global warming is by planting as many trees as possible, which absorb much of the CO2 that is choking the atmosphere and causing dramatic shifts in temperatures.It was only natural that KKL-JNF - which for over 118 years has been developing and nurturing forests in Israel and protecting its natural resources and ecosystems – would launch a campaign to add 100,000 more trees to the world.The campaign, which began today (30 January, 2020) is being publicized on social media platforms. For the donation of 18 shekels per tree (18 being the numerical value of חי –‘Chai’, the Hebrew word for ‘life’), each donor will receive a personalized digital certificate.In addition, donors will be able to see the number of trees planted so far with the help of a live counter at the top of the screen.KKL-JNF World Chairman Daniel Atar noted, “One of the most important tasks in dealing with climate change is to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and increase its absorption from the atmosphere. The main way to do this in Israel is through afforestation, trees and forests being humanity’s most effective tool to stop the climate crisis. I invite the public to take part in this important project, for the people of Israel and the entire world.
