The IDF officially launched a new southern regional brigade for the Eilat region on Wednesday.
The inauguration ceremony was held on Mount Yehoram, overlooking the Red Sea city, in the presence of OC Southern Commander Maj.- Gen. Tal Russo, and Eilat Mayor Meir Yitzhak Halevi.
“We’re in a time of many changes,” Russo said. “We’re making many changes, including the setting up of a regional brigade, and we’re changing our operational perception. We’re in the last stages of completing the fence along the border [with Sinai],” he added.
The Eilat Brigade joins two other southern brigades, Sagi and Arava, that make up the Adom military formation.
Adom’s commander, Brig.- Gen. Nadav Pedent, said, “The events of the ‘Arab Spring’ and the influence of terrorist elements from the Gaza Strip and the environment have placed us before new operational challenges...the setting up of the Eilat regional brigade is an expression of our changed operational perception.”
The aim, he said, was to allow ordinary civilian life in the South to flourish and develop.
