UK's Cameron: Europe must wake up on extremism

MUNICH — British Prime Minister David Cameron on Saturday said European governments need to do more to tackle the intolerance that can spawn violent extremism.
Cameron told the Munich Security Conference that governments have been too tolerant for too long of those who publicly oppose democracy or equal rights for all.
He said many convicted terrorists had initially been influenced by so-called "nonviolent extremists" before going on to carry out violence.
Cameron said "Europe needs to wake up to what is happening in our own countries."
Some Europeans have criticized Britain for harboring hardline Islamic clerics.
Terrorists involved in recent attacks and attempted plots in Sweden, Denmark and Norway have all had links to Britain.
