Tensions along Israel-Gaza frontier prompt IDF to open fire at Palestinians

The Israel Defense Forces fired at an armed individual in the southern Gaza Strip who entered the closed military zone adjacent to the security fence, Israel Radio reported.
IDF troops opened fire after they were unable to coerce the Palestinian to stop. Palestinian sources said it was a 13-year-old boy who was wounded in the incident. According to Israel Radio, the boy is in moderate to serious condition.
Earlier Friday, hundreds of Palestinians demonstrated near the security fence in the northern Gaza Strip. According to Israel Radio, 13 of them were wounded by IDF gunfire. Hamas sources said one of the Palestinians wounded was a 12-year-old boy who was hit in the head with a tear gas canister.
The IDF told Israel Radio that hundreds of Palestinians were hurling stones and trying to do damage to the fence just east of Jabalya. After the IDF tried unsuccessfully to disperse the crowd, it resorted to live fire.
